About me

Doing right by the horse comes first

Horses have been part of my life since I was four years old. I grew up surrounded by them, and my coaches taught me that respect, patience, discipline and doing right by the horse must always come first.

My experience covers performance disciplines, ranch work, roping and bull riding, and most importantly the starting and development of young horses. I discovered my passion for starting young horses in Texas. Since then I have dedicated myself to giving them the best possible first experience with a rider.

Today, through PK Performance Horses, I work with horses and riders who want to build a stronger, clearer and more trusting partnership. My goal is simple: to help people better understand how horses think, feel and communicate. When we help the rider, we ultimately help the horse.

Training philosophy

Teach the mind and the body will follow

Training a horse means training mind and body. A horse that understands what it is being asked stays relaxed, willing and sound. That is why my program is built on clarity instead of pressure. With my help, your horse becomes balanced and stays balanced.

Keep it simple

Every exercise is broken down until it is simple to understand, for you and your horse.

Repetition solves confusion

Calm, consistent repetition turns question marks into confidence.

Train the mind to save the body

A confident horse carries itself better and stays sound longer.

The book

Your first horse deserves more than guesswork

A practical, day-by-day guide to buying, keeping and caring for a horse. Written for first-time and soon-to-be owners.

Most of what goes wrong in the first year is not dramatic, it is quiet: a feeding schedule that is slightly inconsistent, a skipped hoof routine, a horse without herd contact. None of it looks like an emergency on day one. The Horse Ownership Guide closes those gaps before they open, in the order you will actually need them.

What is inside

  • 01Finding the right trainer and the right horse, and the red flags to walk away from
  • 02Bringing your horse home: routine, a safe environment and the first steps toward trust
  • 03Feeding, grooming, hoof and dental care, and when a blanket helps or harms
  • 04Vaccinations, deworming and companionship: preventive care all year round
  • 05Recognising a healthy horse, and clear “call the vet if” guidance when something is wrong
  • 06Trailering, tack, insurance, and how horses learn through pressure and release

The guide helps you understand your horse and recognise when something needs a vet. It does not replace veterinary care.
